BRIGHTEN up your day with a little COLOR!!!

It's everywhere this season and after a long and dreary winter nothing could make me happier than adding some COLOR to my wardrobe!  I'm not talking pastels but with color this season brighter is better. Whether it is a smidge in the form of a handbag or head to toe brights, color is key this season and for the first time in a long time is a trend all on its own!

The assortments are so vast this season and color is everywhere but how to do it right? Keep these things in mind and you can successfully BRIGHTEN up your day with a little (or a lot of...) COLOR!!!

1. Head to toe?  There are no rules against wearing a great bright colored top with a different colored bottom. It is just about doing it right.  Pair a lighter bright blue skirt with a tucked in loose fitting orange colored tunic but neutralize your accessories! Go for nude colored patent pumps and a light beige skinny belt.  When going bright head to toe keep your accessories toned down!
2. Add some color to your work day! Is your work wear 99.9% black and grey?  Brighten up your wardrobe (and day) by pairing black trousers with some bright deep blue or purple pumps or substitute your normal day bag with a red clutch or handbag.
3. Be confident! You will definitely stand out in a crowd in color but embrace it and be comfortable.  Bringing some color into your wardrobe will boost your mood and therefore your confidence!

Here are some of my most favorite colorful finds out there now for $90 and under!

Menswear...I SWEAR! Mix some menswear in your wardrobe and SAVE!!!

My sister and I are best friends and totally opposites when it comes to our personal style.  I like to refer to her wardrobe preferences as "Lounge Chic." Always looking great and not to mention comfortable in her leggings and long cotton cardigans while I on the other hand treat my style choices like I'm playing dress up day after day. It's too difficult to pin as I may be wearing cowboy boots one day or a sequin tunic the next (mind you never together). Still I love and admire my sister and remember the day I asked her about her effortless looking button up woven over stretch leggings. I loved her top and asked her where she got it to which she replied, "I've been shopping in the MEN'S section at Target." While the fashion snobs may turn their heads and scoff I realized how brilliant this concept was and now am a true believer of mixing into your wardrobe menswear...I SWEAR!

WHY? you may ask.  For one not only is the loser fitting more comfortable but the cuts will also be LONGER. When a top is too short your body can often look shorter and wider. A top that hits below your hip bones will make your figure look longer and leaner.  Plus when you style your MEN'S look with just the right amount of GIRL you can also effortlessly pull off the "Lounge Chic" look. Most importantly mixing in some great MEN's finds you score while either shopping or going through your boyfriend/husband's closet can allow you to SAVE.  Here's HOW to create your look...

1. Focus on SLIM CUTS for Men! The last thing you want is to have your clothes make you look larger than you actually are.  Lucky for us slim cuts for men are in fashion and very easy to find so while shopping buy the men's size that best fits your body type.
2. Don't go overboard! Limit your Men's pieces within your look... Take caution when mixing in Men's. Keep your look while adding in an oversized top, hat, etc.
3. Make your look work by maximizing the GIRL factor! The best way to pull off your look is to max out the girl in your look when adding the Men's pieces. Add a lace skirt over a great guys tee, a guy's hat with your favorite dress, or simply wear some great pink lip gloss or a twist in your hair to feminize your look!

Here are some of my favorite ways to add MENSWEAR to your look YEAR ROUND! Happy Shopping Ladies!

ANYTIME LOOK: Tuck in a slightly oversized Men's graphic tee with a skirt (long or short). Add a feminine chic jacket and fashion forward shoes to round out the outfit! It's the perfect outfit for a shopping day or a night out!

A NICE SPRING DAY: Turn a military or western inspired woven into a dress with a length to your liking. Pair it with great sandals and a skinny belt and throw on a denim jacket in the evening!
WINTER WARMTH: Add a men's thermal or long sleeve to your look that is long enough to keep you warm while remaining fashionable at the same time! Pair with leggings, a vest and boots and you will have the perfect outfit for a cold day!

A Little Sequins Can Go A Long Way…

I once bought a top from a store that sold sequins by the pound. Yes you heard me right… SEQUINS by the pound. I don’t why but despite that it was totally ridiculous I had to have it and I know ONE day I will have the chance to wear it. Recently I bought a beautiful Alice & Olivia silver sequin cardigan/jacket. I’m totally in love with it even though the last time I wore it my boyfriend told me in the sweetest way possible that it was a little too Michael Jacksonish… Looking at my wardrobe you could say that I have a thing for sequins. They just make me happy and despite what my hair or make up looks like I'm a little bit brighter with some bling on. However, I have also come to realize that a LITTLE sequins can go a long way…

For those of us last minute New Year’s Eve shoppers it’s natural to want to bring in the New Year with something shiny and bright! The stores are merchandised and ready to sell those NYE outfits with the sequins front and forward but be careful to not over do. You want to use the shine to look classy and avoid cheap. How? Here are some tips to avoid looking like a disco ball at your NYE party…

1. Found an all sequin piece? If you have found something that you’ve fallen in love with (believe me I know how you feel…) whether it be an all sequin dress or top, make sure the rest of your outfit is basic. Pair a sequin top with a great pair of dark wash jeans and heels. I was incredibly inspired by a Glamour magazine photo of a women in sequin leggings so this NYE I will pair my black sequin leggings with a long grey cotton cashmere sweater and some basic black heels.

2. Careful with COLOR!!! A bright fuchsia all sequin dress can tend to read cheap. Be cautious when it comes to sequin in colors. Go for darker colors and black and if you are set on the bright pink then do your best to minimize the shine.

3. Let the sequins do the work! Set on some sequins? Choose a piece where the sequins compliment your favorite part of your body by adding just a touch a shine. Love your waist? Go for the skirt with the sequin top section. You can also make the outfit delicate and lady like by buying that black dress with just a touch of sequin design on the shoulders.

NYE is TONIGHT so for all of you last minute shoppers here are some of my favorite looks out there with just the right amount of shine for under $100. Happy New Years Shoppers!

TIGHTen up your spending! Fashion tights for under $15!

It can be extremely sad when you discover that one of your favorite pairs of tights has a rip that is too large to ignore and therefore impossible to wear.  The only thing to do is to throw them away.  Not only is this heart breaking because they were last season's favorite and there's no way to get them again but also because you paid a little too much.

Luckily for me this has happened far too many times and I have learned my lesson. One great way to save money this winter is to TIGHTen up your spending!!! Look for tights this season for $15 and under. Why?...

1. Most tights are made of the same material however priced based on design and brand. Even though you're paying more it doesn't necessarily mean better quality.

2. Avoid the disappointment when a season old pair final gets a snag! Find tights for a great price and buy TWO pairs instead of one.  Most likely you will still be spending less than you would be normally and then you can end up keeping a certain print 2 seasons instead of 1!

3. Make your tights an accessory!  Tights can make any outfit but you want to ensure that you're not wearing the same tights every day.  By saving money on each pair of tights you can buy a variety.  Tights can be fun but just make sure that the brighter color tights act as a touch to the outfit and do not take over. Wear them with boots so that there is just a touch of color between the top of the boot and your hemline.

Here are my favorite tights I've found this season for under $15! Have you found your new favorite pair? If so please share!!!
